The Daily Scoop
A publication featuring the Bloomberg article “How Ben & Jerry’s Perfected the Delicate Recipe for Corporate Activism” in the style of a food magazine. This article describes the success of Ben & Jerry’s recent statement regarding the Black Lives Matter movement, and I wanted to capture the authenticity of their brand without diminishing the importance of the subject.












Process
I looked at a variety of ice cream packaging designs, Ben & Jerry’s branding, and historical and modern food magazines for inspiration. I started by identifying the most important quotes in the article by Level 1 and Level 2 hierarchy, and mapped them out across all the spreads to avoid pacing issues. I initially struggled to establish a cohesive style that felt like a food magazine while keeping the emphasis on the type, but it helped to use a 5-column grid system, always leaving at least one open for negative space.
